My interest in counseling began when I started studying personality psychology, and how it affects our interactions with one another. So much of life is about relationships. In my graduate studies at the University of Indianapolis, I have been able to learn so much about research concerning relationships and counseling. Research informs my practice to a great degree, so I am consistently consulting the literature for proven treatment in addition to collaborating with clients on goals and plans for the future.

I believe that the key to success in therapy is a strong alliance between the client and counselor.  I work to achieve this through building trust, providing encouragement and empathy, as well as mutual respect. This relationship can allow for an empowered sense of self, improved relationships with others, and emotional growth.

My love for learning, adventure, and community inform my approach to treatment. My theoretical background includes Relational Cultural Theory and a Humanistic perspective. This means that I work with clients to understand obstacles as they impact you in the present and identify the significant relationships in your life as we work together.
